How we decide what to tell you

Every category we cover has a handful of specifications that genuinely change how a product behaves, surrounded by a much larger set that exists to win a comparison table. A sensor resolution above a certain point stops mattering. A suction figure tells you almost nothing next to how the machine navigates a room. A capacity rating on a battery is not the capacity you receive.

Our guides work through those distinctions one category at a time, in plain language, and say which specifications to ignore. That is the whole product. If you read a guide and buy nothing, the guide still did its job.

Each guide is written from domain understanding rather than assembled from manufacturer marketing copy or retailer product bullets. We describe failure modes, not feature lists: what actually breaks, what wears out, what the rating on the box stops covering after a year of real use.

Guides deliberately contain no product names and no model numbers. Naming a specific model dates a guide within months and pushes the reader toward a purchase before they understand the decision. The advice is meant to outlive any particular product.

Separately from the guides, we run an engine against Amazon's catalog that looks for products trading below their normal list price. A discount on its own is a weak signal — a large one is often a mispriced or abandoned listing — so the engine also weighs category sales rank, how many competing offers exist, and whether the item ships from Amazon.

Items that clear those filters appear under Picks. They are a shortlist, not a recommendation. The guide for the category is the recommendation.
